Spotlight on Special Needs Animal Rescue & Rehabilitation Northeast

SNARR Northeast (Special Needs Animal Rescue & Rehabilitation) “gives hope to the hopeless,” as its tagline says. Walkin’ Pets was moved by their mission to help injured and disabled dogs and reached out to them to find out more.

About SNARR Northeast

SNARR is a nonprofit organization that rescues dogs from high kill shelters. They rescue dogs from across the United States, although their geographic focus is the New York City area.

What makes this organization even more special is that SNARR targets dogs with paralysis, birth defects, blindness, deafness, the very elderly, or those in need of surgery. Many dogs are given a second chance at life through this noble mission!

The organization not only rescues the dogs, they rehabilitate them and then find foster homes and ultimately adoptions. As word spreads of their work, perhaps more people will open their hearts and homes to these dogs – and others like them, all across the country and the world.

Dog Wheelchair Needed for Support

Meet Mabel, a special needs animal that SNARR rescued. She has a spinal defect and a very weak back end. The neurologist SNARR consulted with suggested a dog wheelchair for support and outdoor use.

Mabel “hops like a rabbit,” per her foster mom, and she is also incontinent. Mabel’s foster mom and SNARR said they

“would love to get a wheelchair before summer comes so Mabel can get used it and can go on long walks with her dog siblings, which she’s been unable to.”

Walkin’ Pets donated a Walkin’ Wheels wheelchair to Mabel so she can exercise her legs and get the support she needs!

Saving Lives

Mabel, like the many other dogs that SNARR Northeast helps, was saved from euthanasia by their compassionate care. In a world that can sometimes feel cold or uncaring, let’s celebrate efforts like these and shine a light on them!

Share their story; every life rescued is a life saved and a life given the love it deserves.

SNARR saves dog livesThere are so many rescues doing extraordinary work in the U.S. and around the world. This work not only saves dogs’ lives, it saves humanity. Compassion needs to stay alive and well for the sake of all of us on this planet.

Sometimes it is an animal that teaches this to us most directly, most acutely. They can reach into our hearts with blinding speed. Let them work their magic – let them in!

Foster or adopt a rescue dog! Support organizations like SNARR and other efforts like these around the world! Be the change!

  1. Hi I am not sure this is the correct web site but I worked with Trish Lane last year to find a home for Bagel and Chloe. Two senior dogs dumped at Road to Home Rescue run by Elyse Shinook. We thought we had a hoe for both of them since they are bonded and over 10 years old/ Somewhere in a comment on them said that SNARR was to give them a home. I contacted Trish and asked her to give more info on them to you. She responded by giving me this reply
I just checked with Dave at Pets4Luv. Will you please let them know? His name is Dave Bernachi ….runs Pets4Luv and number is 516-860-7057. Ill message him too.

I have not been able to contact him but will keep trying. However, please can you update me on whether your organization is or can take care of them.
