AMHERST, NH (October 6, 2017) – Walkin’ Pets by HandicappedPets.com has awarded its first Veterinarian Scholarship to Christina Betta, a 4th year student at Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine. The pet product company, which serves the needs of disabled, injured, and aging pets, set up the scholarship to honor the veterinary community and lend support to the next generation of veterinarians.
Christina Betta won the $1,000 scholarship award by submitting the most compelling scholarship essay. She will be graduating with her doctoral degree in veterinary medicine in May 2018. Her undergraduate work was done at the University of Maryland, College Park where Christina was an animal science major.
Christina believes in “looking at each pet holistically,” and to that end, she has also worked in rehab and is getting her certification in acupuncture as well from CuraCore. Christina hopes to initially intern in emergency medicine upon graduation, and eventually find a practice where a variety of healing modalities are offered.
While Christina has always loved animals, she never had pets growing up. She was delighted to get her first dog in March of 2015 – a rescue dog named Piper. Christina enrolled Piper in a therapy dog program, and upon certification, they have gone to a variety of venues to provide comfort and a calming presence.
Walkin’ Pets looks forward to following Christina’s career in veterinary medicine, as she is sure to be outstanding in her field upon graduating from Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine with her DVM degree.
