AMHERST, NH (August 3, 2017) – Public voting has begun for the 3rd annual worldwide Walkin’ Pets 2018 Calendar Contest for pets using Walkin’ Wheels wheelchairs. The 238 pets competing for the top 13 calendar spots represent 31 countries and 40 U.S. states. Most of the contestants are dogs, but there is also one goat from New Hampshire and one lamb from Chile in the competition! The pets range in age from a few months to 19 years old.
The popular contest raises awareness of options for mobility challenged animals. Some of the pets were born with deformities, some sustained injuries from car accidents or falls, and many became lame due to disease such as degenerative myelopathy, or weakness from the effects of aging. All the pets in the competition are winners, exhibiting joy, courage, and determination to live life to the fullest. One of the pet owners wrote of her dog, “She loves the freedom the wheels give her and is forever running in and out of the house.”
Many of the contestants were rescued from various unhappy or tragic situations and now live complete lives, filled with love. One owner says of her rescue dog, “I have had the joy of getting to spend the last year with her. She’s fearless and simply amazing. She’s the sweetest soul I’ve ever known.” Numerous pet owners wrote of being inspired by their pets and their infectious, live-in-the-moment sense of joy.
The public is encouraged to visit the Walkin’ Pets Facebook Calendar Contest photo album to vote and feel the joy as well! Public voting takes place during the month of August on the company’s Facebook page (www.facebook.com/handicappedpets), where each pet’s photo is posted in a Calendar Contest photo album.
The 13 pets with the most reactions and shares will be specially featured (cover, plus each month) in the 2018 Walkin’ Pets Calendar, but the company strives to find a place in the calendar for as many of the contestants as possible. Voting deadline is Aug. 31, 2017, 5PM EST.
