What Makes the SureFit® Calculator the Best Choice?

SureFit® Guarantee: we guarantee the perfect size, or we’ll pay your return shipping costs if an exchange is needed. That way there’s no doubt your pet will get the perfect fit.

We highly recommend using our SureFit® Calculator as it ensures the perfect custom fit for your pet. It requires a couple measurements, but only so we can provide your pet with the very best experience.

We recognize this takes a few minutes of your time, but those minutes are worth the happiness your pet will experience once they try out their wheelchair for the first time. Our wheelchairs have already helped more than 81,000 other pets. Let’s make that 81,001!

Other companies simply have you select a wheelchair based on weight, but that often results in a poor fit. Why? A 30 lb bulldog has a very different body type from a 30 lb corgi, but those companies will provide both with the same wheelchair.

How to Choose the Right Size

To determine the best size for your tripawd pet, please measure in a standing position using the remaining healthy leg to determine size. Measure from 1″ above the stifle (knee) to the middle of the back. If your pet falls between sizes, please select the size based on your dog’s weight range. You will need to specify LEFT or RIGHT amputee sleeve needed.

Is This Right for Your Pet?

The Walkin’ Hip-EEZ® Amputee System Helps Pets of All Ages:
The Hip-EEZ helps young puppies in the earliest stages of hip dysplasia through older dogs dealing with arthritis, hip pain, and inflammation. It’s not uncommon for rear amputee pets to place additional stress on their remaining hind limb. The hip brace is designed to decrease a dog’s hip pain and promote mobility while helping to keep your rear amputee pet comfortable and active. Since every surgical procedure is different, the Hip-EEZ is designed to accommodate pets with a stump as well as smooth amputations.

The Hip-EEZ will not help pets that can not stand on their own and can not bear any weight on their hind legs. These dogs may need the additional support of a dog wheelchair. Please speak with your veterinarian to determine the best treatment plan for your pet.

What to Expect:
It’s important to remember the initial fitting of the Walkin’ Hip-EEZ will take some time. Some pets will take right away to the mobility aide and others may take more time to adjust. A slow acclimation to wearing the Hip-EEZ is important. It may take some pets 2-4 weeks to completely be adjusted to walk and run when wearing the Hip-EEZ. That’s completely normal for a full hip mobility device. We recommend using positive reinforcement (including treats and praise)

For Best Results:
If your pet is suffering from any conditions affecting the hip joints which cause pain or change in mobility, working with your Veterinarian on a multi-modal treatment plan approach will always have the best outcome. Your Veterinarian may recommend joint supplements, pain management plan, structured exercise or even seeing a Canine Rehabilitation Therapist. Using the Walkin’ Hip-EEZ to promote continued comfortable mobility along with the items listed above will allow your pet the best outcome. Discuss what plan works best for your pet with your Veterinary Professional today.

Product Instructions

Placing Walkin’ Hip-EEZ® Amputee System on for the first time:

  1. Fit your pet with the chest harness and adjust for comfort. The harness D-Ring should be on top of the back.
  2. Place the Hip-EEZ across your dog’s back and loosely attach the Hip-EEZ strap to the chest harness by running the nylon strap through the D-ring. This will keep the hip brace in place as you adjust it. Make sure the amputee panel is on the correct side.
  3. Apply the amputee leg panel first, slide your pet’s stump into the pocket and attach the leg straps around your dog’s stump. Touch fastener straps wrap behind your dog’s leg and attach to the outside of the panel. When adjusted correctly elastic strap should point upwards V shape on the outside of the leg panel.
  4. Continue with the remaining leg panel. Attach the leg straps around your dog’s thigh about the knee joint. Elastic straps attach to the outside of the leg panel in an upwards V shape.
  5. Once both leg panels are in position, you’re ready to tighten as necessary If there is gapping or leg panel is sitting too far below the knee lightly detach right and left panels and tighten across the dog’s hind end as needed. If the panel slides backward off the dog, tighten the strap connecting the Hip-EEZ to the chest harness. Now you’re ready to go!

For Smooth Amputees:

  3. Apply the full leg panel first, Attach the leg straps around your dog’s thigh about the knee joint. Elastic straps attach to the outside of the leg panel in an upwards V shape.
  4. Now attach the amputee leg panel, attach Flat Amputee attachment on bottom of the panel (on the outside) with Sherpa closest to your dog’s body. Elastic straps attach the outside panel on your dog’s full leg in an upward V shape.
  5. Once both panels are in position, you’re ready to tighten as necessary If there is gapping or leg panel is sitting too far below the knee lightly detach right and left panels and tighten across the dog’s hind end as needed. If panel slides backward off the dog, tighten the strap connecting the Hip-EEZ to the chest harness. Now you’re ready to go!

Frequently Asked Fitting Questions:

Pet Not Walking with Hip-EEZ® on:

If your pup is hesitant to walk once the Hip-EEZ® is on, try making a couple of adjustments. Check the strap connecting to the chest harness isn’t too tight. By loosening this strap, it may make it more comfortable for your pet while keeping the panels in place.

Remember it will take some time for your pet to get used to the Hip-EEZ®. Use treats and positive reinforcement to encourage them.

Gap on Top of Pelvis when secure leg panels:

Not every pet’s body type will fit perfectly with the leg panels. Try and secure the Velcro panels over top of the pelvis tautly. If there is gapping, you can try refastening the panels. The design allows for the panels to Velcro easily together in different positions. A small gap will still allow the product to offer support. Ideally, you want to secure the brace as tightly as possible, in a way that is still comfortable for your pet.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does it work?

The Hip-EEZ® uses supportive neoprene panels to provide support and compression around the hip region of your dog’s remaining healthy leg.

How long can my pet wear it?

Your pet can wear the Hip-EEZ® while walking, running, sitting, and laying down. Hours of wear at a time are alright. We do recommend you remove it before bed and do not leave your pet unattended with the Hip-EEZ® on.

How do I care for it?

Hand wash Hip-EEZ® with clean cloth or sponge. Lay flat to let air dry. Machine washing not recommended and may affect the stability of the product. To remove hair from side panels and touch fasteners, we recommend using a lint roller.

Can I still use my leash on the D-Ring while using?

Yes, you may still hook a leash to the D-Ring while the Hip-EEZ® is attached. However, we recommend attaching to another spot during long walks.

Can my pet go to the bathroom with the Hip-EEZ® on?

Yes, your pet can go potty with the Hip-EEZ® on. There should be no interference with getting business done.

What do I do if my pet refuses to walk while wearing the Hip-EEZ®?

If your pup is hesitant to walk once the Hip-EEZ® is on, try making a couple of adjustments. Check the strap connecting to the chest harness isn’t too tight. By loosening this strap, it may make it more comfortable for your pet while still keeping the panels up.

Remember it will take some time for your pet to get used to the Hip-EEZ®. Use treats and positive reinforcement to encourage them. Not sure if the fit is correct? Our Customer Service team is ready to help. For fitting advice, please send photos or videos to us via text or email.

How quickly can I expect to see results?

Some pets may see immediate improvements while wearing their Hip-EEZ® mobility aide and others may take more time. Please expect that it may take 2-4 weeks for your pet to completely be adjusted to walk and run when wearing the Hip-EEZ®. A slow acclimation to wearing the Hip-EEZ® is important and is completely normal for a full hip mobility device.

If your pet is suffering from any conditions affecting the hip joints which cause pain or change in mobility, working with your Veterinarian on a multi-module treatment plan approach will always have the best outcome. Your Veterinarian may recommend joint supplements, pain management plan, structured exercise or even seeing a Canine Rehabilitation Therapist. Using the Walkin’ Hip-EEZ® to promote continued comfortable mobility along with the items listed above will allow your pet the best outcome. Discuss what plan works best for your pet with your Veterinary Professional today.

Will the Hip-EEZ® help my dog if he’s unable to walk?

In order for the Hip-EEZ® to benefit your pet, your pet must be ambulatory and able to walk. The only exception is when you are using the Hip-EEZ® with the Hip Donut Attachment, which is designed to help down dogs with decubitus ulcer treatment and prevention. If your pet is completely down and requires additional support to walk, we recommend the Walkin’ Wheels wheelchair.

My dog falls between sizes, how do I choose the right size?

If your pet falls between two sizes, we recommend selecting the correct size based on your dog’s weight. Need help? Call us at 888-253-0777, our Customer Care team is happy to help your dog get the perfect size Hip-EEZ®.

Professional Use

The Hip-EEZ® Amputee system is specially designed based on inspiration from Canine Rehabilitation cases that needed something more.  Tripod pups are at higher risk for injuries to the remaining leg.  Joint and pain management play a very large role in the needs of these pets. I designed this product to provide support and compression to the hip joint of the remaining leg while allowing movement and accommodating most amputee stumps.  There was a desperate need to provide an option to Tri-pod dogs.
As with any new product, continuing to collect data and feedback from professionals is key.  Working together as a Veterinary community to create, provide and improve products that aide in healing our patients.  I can only hope these products are able to help your patients as well.  Please reach out to us and share your thoughts and help us continue to collect more case studies on the Hip-EEZ®.  We want your help in making sure our products meet the needs and approval of our fellow pet lovers.

Our Pets Deserve the Same Level of Care As People Do

For the longest time, petcare products haven’t been made with the highest quality materials and components, and they haven’t included all the necessary features.

That is until Walkin’ Pets started developing petcare products that rival similar products used for people.

Before we opened our doors in 2001, it seemed like our pets weren’t treated like members of the family when it came to medical care products. Pet owners had no other option but to use whatever contraptions they could find online, or in the worst cases, put their beloved furry or feathered family member to sleep.

We knew there had to be a better way.

When It Comes to the Health of Your Pet, Quality. Matters. Most.

We didn’t cut any corners. Helping your pet live a longer, happier, more mobile life is our singular focus.

Product quality is incredibly important to us, throughout the manufacturing process there are several quality checks along the way. We do initial product inspections at the manufacturer to ensure that our products meet all of our quality standards. We inspect everything by hand.

Once the products arrive in our warehouse, there is another phase of inspection, where our specially trained team inspects our products again
