Tiny Pup Found with Broken Spine & Legs Gives Back to Special Needs Community

LINCOLN, UK (March 14, 2023): Pumpkin is an adorable 1-year-old pup, weighing in at 8 pounds, who ended up at a rescue at just a few weeks old. Upon being found, rescuers noticed she was dragging her back legs, appearing paralyzed from the waist down. After further evaluation, it was discovered that Pumpkin had suffered a broken spine and two broken back legs, causing rear-end paralysis – they do not believe that she was born this way. Doctors and specialists said that she would never walk again…
Soon after her rescue, Pumpkin was adopted by a loving family who gave her a second chance at life and gifted her a Walkin’ Wheels wheelchair for mobility. This was the moment she beat all odds and took her first independent steps on her own – a major triumph!
Pumpkin’s owner, Tammie Fox, says, “Pumpkin has completely changed our lives. She is a happy, determined pup – nothing holds her back. Her life is full of adventures and happiness.”
Not only has her resilience inspired her new family, but she is now an advocate for the special needs pets community around the world. Tammie created a non-profit organization in Pumpkin’s name, called “Pumpkin & Friends Charity,” which donates wheelchairs to special needs pets. They have already helped over 111 pets find newfound freedom with the assistance of their wheelchairs.
Pumpkin is a therapy dog, regularly visiting schools and nursing homes to spread love, healing, and happiness. Her bright personality has also landed her a huge role as Toto, in The Wizard of Oz at the Theatre Loyal in Lincoln, England!
“Since owning Pumpkin and starting my charity, my whole perspective has completely changed. Disabled animals are amazing and inspiring. I am passionate about this and want to show the world that these animals deserve to live. Having a disability does not have to be a death sentence,” says Tammie.
