LINCOLN, ENGLAND (October 4, 2022): Walkin’ Pets is proud to announce that Pumpkin, a 1-year-old West Highland Terrier, and her owner’s non-profit organization, “Pumpkin and Friends Charity” have been nominated for the Hero Award in the 2023 Walkin’ Pets International Calendar! The 8th annual calendar contest helps to raise pet mobility awareness and celebrates the incredible strength and spirit of handicapable animals. This year’s calendar contest featured entries from 24 different countries and features pets from around the world using their Walkin’ Wheels wheelchair.

Meet Pumpkin – The Paralyzed Westie with a Big Heart

Pumpkin was not born paralyzed; her spine had been broken. She is paralyzed from the shoulders back, but thankfully, Pumpkin has no pain. Pumpkin was rescued at eight weeks old, and her new family instantly fell in love with her. Not knowing what to do about her condition, Tammie (Pumpkin’s owner) met with a Vet and was recommended a dog wheelchair and taught how to care for an animal with special needs. “Despite everything Pumpkin has been through, she is the happiest little dog,” said Tammie.

Since adopting Pumpkin, Pumpkin’s family has been advocating for disabled animals, raising awareness, fundraising, saving lives, providing funds for families, as well as donating wheelchairs to animals in need. They are now an established charity called Pumpkin and Friends, where they work tirelessly 24/7 for the “underdogs” who need mobility assistance.
Since beginning their charity just 13 weeks ago, Pumpkin and Friends have helped put over 30 dogs into Walkin’ Wheels wheelchairs. Not only is Pumpkin an advocate for the special needs community, but she is also a registered therapy dog, regularly visiting nursing homes and schools, “she brings so much joy and happiness into people’s lives,” says Tammie.

Walkin’ Pets is proud to announce that Pumpkin and Friends Charity is named the 2023 Hero Award, and we want to thank them from the bottom of our hearts for their selflessness, compassion, and efforts given to those who need it most.
