What Makes the SureFit® Calculator the Best Choice?

SureFit® Guarantee: we guarantee the perfect size, or we’ll pay your return shipping costs if an exchange is needed. That way there’s no doubt your pet will get the perfect fit.

We highly recommend using our SureFit® Calculator as it ensures the perfect custom fit for your pet. It requires a couple measurements, but only so we can provide your pet with the very best experience.

We recognize this takes a few minutes of your time, but those minutes are worth the happiness your pet will experience once they try out their wheelchair for the first time. Our wheelchairs have already helped more than 81,000 other pets. Let’s make that 81,001!

Other companies simply have you select a wheelchair based on weight, but that often results in a poor fit. Why? A 30 lb bulldog has a very different body type from a 30 lb corgi, but those companies will provide both with the same wheelchair.

Walkin' Wheels Rear Wheelchair

SOUTH DEERFIELD, MA (November 30, 2021) – Jen Healy and her partner Em adopted the lovable and energetic Roscoe about 6 years ago when he was unable to be cared for by his original owner. Four years into their time with Roscoe, they noticed that one of his rear legs wasn’t landing on the ground quite right. Initially thinking that Roscoe was suffering from an injury, they took him to the vet and discovered that what they were noticing were early signs of Degenerative Myelopathy (DM). Jen and Em headed to the internet to seek support from other owners whose pups were also suffering from this progressive disease that can cause rear leg weakness and eventually paralysis in some cases. This is where they were first introduced to Walkin’ Wheels wheelchairs, and the positive impact that they can have on quality of life for a dog with DM. Roscoe received his wheels, and he was given back his independence so that he could run around and play like the energetic puppy he had always been.

Jen and Em had recently decided to start their search to help the rescue community by bringing another disabled pup into their home, when they noticed that Walkin’ Pets had posted about Arlo, a beautiful boxer mix at A Friend of Jack Rescue in Colorado. Arlo was 7 months old at the time, and she had garnered the attention of local news outlets due to her use of a Walkin’ Wheels wheelchair because of a traumatic spinal injury that left her paralyzed from the waist down. Jen and Em were broken hearted that nobody had given this sweet girl a chance yet, and they thought she might be a great fit for their family, so they decided to reach out. Jen says about disabled pets that “They don’t bring any less joy because they need wheelchairs, and they’re no less deserving of full lives because they need a little extra help.”

Arlo came to meet Jen and Em at their home in South Deerfield, MA over Labor Day weekend 2021, and immediately she added the element of playful chaos to their home that they had been seeking. Arlo keeps her brother Roscoe on his toes as he helps to show her the ropes of life in her new forever home.

While Jen and Em acknowledge that it can be intimidating to think about the logistics of caring for an animal with special needs—let alone two! — Roscoe and Arlo have made it so worth it for them. They initially had concerns that taking their pets in and out of wheelchairs and other mobility devices would cause the dogs more stress than happiness, but they have found that it is the complete opposite. Watching the two of them play and move around like any other dog is incredibly rewarding. Jen states that “sometimes the form that love takes is figuring out what their needs are and how you can meet those needs.”
