SAN DIEGO, CA (June 21, 2021) – Leah was only a few years old when she was hit by a car in Tijuana, Mexico and left for dead. Leah laid by the side of the road begging for help as people stepped over her without giving her a second glance. By the time Leah was brought to Amazing Strays Rescue the damage to her spine, pelvis, and hind legs was so severe that it was clear that it was unlikely she would ever be able to walk or stand on her own. Willing to do whatever they could for her, the Amazing Strays team brought to a rehab specialist where Leah is working to regain as much strength and leg function as possible.
Leah’s mobility and life changed again when Walkin’ Pets, a pet mobility company based out of NH, gifted Leah with a Walkin’ Wheels dog wheelchair to help get her mobile again. Leah’s foster mom, Elise Navarro says that Leah’s new wheelchair has helped her become a part of the pack and play with their other three dogs, “having her wheelchair has helped Leah become a more independent doggy”. Special needs dogs like Leah often have a harder time being adopted, but Elise encourages others to foster and adopt special needs pets like Leah. “Being able to help her out, an animal as sweet as her fills our lives with so much appreciation and love.”
