AMHERST, NH (February 25, 2020) – When the unlikely friendship between a chihuahua who can’t walk and a pigeon who can’t fly went viral, the rescue who cared for them were shocked. The Mia Foundation in Rochester, NY home to both Lundy the chihuahua and Herman the pigeon were overwhelmed by the outpouring of support they received when images and video of the unique friendship were quickly shared around the world. Receiving thousands of dollars in donations, and one extra special gift for Lundy, his first wheelchair.
At only 8-weeks old and weighing just a few pounds, rescue volunteers were concerned that they would have to wait weeks or months before Lundy would be large enough to get a wheelchair to fit him. They were shocked when Walkin’ Pets, a pet mobility company based out of NH, contacted them to gift Lundy with Mini Walkin’ Wheels wheelchair, small enough to fit the tiny two-pound puppy.
Now, mobile and able to walk on his own for the first time in his life, Lundy is ready for his next big adventure, finding his forever home. For adoption details, please contact the Mia Foundation.
The Mia Foundation was founded in 2012, in honor of their beloved pet Mia. The Foundation has rescued and adopted over 1,000 special needs animals. Their “Forever 10” initiative travels to local schools to teach kids about being born different and the negative effects of bullying.
