AMHERST, NH (May 10, 2017) – HandicappedPets.com, an online pet product company based in Amherst, N.H., has changed its name to Walkin’ Pets by HandicappedPets.com. The company re-branded with the “Walkin’ Pets” umbrella to reflect the fact that it no longer just serves handicapped pets, but also serves aging pets and pets suffering from temporary injuries.
Mark C. Robinson started the HandicappedPets.com online pet product company in 2000. His vision was to create a one-stop shopping experience for pet owners who cared for disabled animals. In 2005, listening to his community of caretakers, Mark was inspired to invent a dog wheelchair that was affordable, easy to use, and adjustable so that it could fit many sizes of dogs. There were a few wheelchairs on the market at the time, but they were expensive and took weeks to custom build.
Robinson launched his invention, the Walkin’ Wheels dog wheelchair, in 2008. It revolutionized the world of pet care, giving pet owners an affordable, off the shelf mobility solution as an alternative to euthanizing a pet who might be healthy, but just needed help walking. When pet owners are done using the wheelchair, because of its adjustability, it can be re-sold or given to another dog.
Over the course of the 16 years since the company was founded, Robinson expanded the product line to serve aging and injured pets, as well as disabled animals. Walkin’ Pets now sells a wide variety of harnesses, ready-made splints, a No-Knuckling Training Sock, products for incontinence, bedding, ramps, and more. Re-naming the company to Walkin’ Pets by HandicappedPets.com reflects Robinson’s wider vision for the company.
Walkin’ Pets has recently started selling pet supplements for general well-being and for hip and joint health. Robinson will continue to introduce new products into the company’s expanding line. “I’m excited that we’re now serving a wider population of pet caretakers,” says Robinson. “Our mission is that pets are family and deserve to live happy, healthy lives, and I’m thrilled to help pet caretakers make that a reality in their lives.”
