What Makes the SureFit® Calculator the Best Choice?

SureFit® Guarantee: we guarantee the perfect size, or we’ll pay your return shipping costs if an exchange is needed. That way there’s no doubt your pet will get the perfect fit.

We highly recommend using our SureFit® Calculator as it ensures the perfect custom fit for your pet. It requires a couple measurements, but only so we can provide your pet with the very best experience.

We recognize this takes a few minutes of your time, but those minutes are worth the happiness your pet will experience once they try out their wheelchair for the first time. Our wheelchairs have already helped more than 81,000 other pets. Let’s make that 81,001!

Other companies simply have you select a wheelchair based on weight, but that often results in a poor fit. Why? A 30 lb bulldog has a very different body type from a 30 lb corgi, but those companies will provide both with the same wheelchair.

Casting Kit

Product Details

The Walkin’ Pets Casting Kit allows you to make a perfect impression of your pet’s front or rear leg which is needed to fabricate a custom leg brace. Each casting kit includes all the materials you need to make a cast of your pet’s limb. For best results, Walkin’ Pets recommends that a veterinarian or trained pet professional help to cast your dog’s leg.

Each casting kit includes:

  • A 20” cut strip
  • Casting tape – 2 rolls
  • Pair of gloves
  • A stockinet
  • Safety knife
  • Scissors
  • Casting instructions
  • Measuring tape

Not included but is required:

  • Small bowl filled with cool water to submerge the casting tape
  • Permanent marker

A pet should always be cast while lying down, with their leg in a natural standing position. To avoid a cast that is too short or not properly flexed, make sure that your dog’s leg is cast is fully and covering as much of the leg as possible.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a casting kit cost?

The casting kit comes with everything you need to take an accurate fiberglass impression of your pet’s leg and costs $75. The cost of the casting kit will be reimbursed once the cast is returned, and you have completed the purchase of your Walkin’ Pets Brace.

The brace may be purchased on the Walkin’ Pets website or over the phone at 888-253-0777, the final cost of the brace is $795.

My casting did not go as planned; what do I do?

Your pet’s cast is needed in order to fabricate the most appropriately fitting brace with the fewest required adjustments. The fiberglass impression is critical in fabricating an appropriate dog brace or prosthetic.

Our certified Orthotist is available to speak with your local veterinarian about the specific techniques over the phone or via a scheduled video chat appointment.

Need to take another cast? Not a problem. We have additional casting supplies available for purchase here.

Is the casting process complicated?

Although it’s much easier than you may think to take a cast of your pet, for best results we recommend that you contact your veterinarian to assist you with the casting process. Once you place your order, Walkin’ Pets will ship you a casting kit with everything you need to get started.

We recommend a pet’s cast be taken with them lying down on their side, with the leg positioned as if it were bearing weight on the leg. The affected or injured leg should always be the leg that is cast. To avoid a cast that is too short, the casting tape should be brought as high up into the groin as and wrap as much of the leg as possible.

See the video below for step-by-step instructions on making a cast of a pet’s limb.

The brace must be purchased and paid in full prior to fabrication beginning. Each brace is available for purchase online at here or over the phone at 888-253-0777. The final purchase price of each brace is $795.

My pet won’t stand up, is it ok to cast my pet’s leg lying down?

Although, we prefer a dog to stand as they are cast but not every dog is able to or cooperates. You can cast your pet’s leg with them lying prone on their side, if you chose this method make sure your pet’s leg and foot are in a natural, standing position (as they would be if they were truly weight bearing).

Our Pets Deserve the Same Level of Care As People Do

For the longest time, petcare products haven’t been made with the highest quality materials and components, and they haven’t included all the necessary features.

That is until Walkin’ Pets started developing petcare products that rival similar products used for people.

Before we opened our doors in 2001, it seemed like our pets weren’t treated like members of the family when it came to medical care products. Pet owners had no other option but to use whatever contraptions they could find online, or in the worst cases, put their beloved furry or feathered family member to sleep.

We knew there had to be a better way.

When It Comes to the Health of Your Pet, Quality. Matters. Most.

We didn’t cut any corners. Helping your pet live a longer, happier, more mobile life is our singular focus.

Product quality is incredibly important to us, throughout the manufacturing process there are several quality checks along the way. We do initial product inspections at the manufacturer to ensure that our products meet all of our quality standards. We inspect everything by hand.

Once the products arrive in our warehouse, there is another phase of inspection, where our specially trained team inspects our products again

Thanks for your feedback. I’ll share this with my team and rework this section. Thank you.
