If You Care for an Elderly, Disabled, or Special Needs Dog, Cat, or Pet, You've come to the right place!
We understand the needs of handicapped pets and can help you care for them. Thousands of us are caring for an elderly or disabled pet with special needs; senior, geriatric, injured, recovering from surgery, cancer, terminal illness, arthritis, paralysis, and more. We have Everything You Need.
Lucy, a cute black dog with a bright blue tongue, was born in Puerto Rico. Hit by a car and left by the side of the road to die, she was rescued by the Second Chance Animal Rescue and, after almost giving up hope, by a woman in Peterborough, NH. In October 2008 she was named "HandicappedPets.com Official Mascot" and given a new Walkin' Wheels dog wheelchair.
In an effort to educate the public on the many benefits of caring for a canine senior citizen, the ASPCA has designated November as Adopt a Senior Pet Month. It’s an unfortunate reality, but in the case of animal rescue, older dogs are much less likely to find homes because they are often considered "less desirable."
It’s here! We are extremely excited to offer this free teaching manual to youth educators and leaders everywhere. Kathy Barton, 4th grade teacher from Oklahoma, developed this manual with the help of friends of HandicappedPets.com. This simple, accessible curriculum guide is adaptable to many ages in classroom or group settings.
In a time when violence and intolerance occurs all too often, this unique approach to helping children learn compassion through witnessing it through handicapped pets and then taking action themselves is invaluable. Please download it, share it, spread the word.
The last page of the manual is a resource listing of caretakers of handicapped pets who are willing to go into classrooms as part of this program. If you and your pet would be willing to make a classroom or youth group visit, please email: lisa @ handicappedpets.com to be included in the listing, which will be updated on a regular basis.
