In Loving Memory
In loving memory of my special dog Bella 3 January 2001 Bella was rejected by her mother at birth, resulting in me taking her in and feeding her with a pipette every 2 hours for the first 14 days of her life. After this exhausting but rewarding time, she could then be fed 3 times a day with a baby bottle. Bella loved all the attention she received and grew into a beautiful lively dog. At the age of nearly 10 years, Bella unfortunately started developing back problems. In October 2010 our vet gave up on her and advised us to rather put her down. This was obviously not an option to us, because Bella was otherwise very healthy and still had a zest for life! My daughter did a lot of research on the internet and we then took Bella for laser accupuncture treatment 3 times a week for a period of 9 months. This treatment successfully took away all her pain, but it did not help the back problem and Bella eventually could not walk anymore. Bella was diagnosed with degenerative myelopathy and my daughter then came across the Walkin' Wheels site, where we saw all the beautiful success stories and immediately wanted the same for Bella. With the help of another vet, we managed to import a wheel chair for Bella. At the age of nearly 11 years, Bella was the first dog with a Walkin' Wheels chair in Namibia. From the second day on Bella could easily move about and one could see that she liked her new mobility very much! Bella could now go for daily walks in the bush and neighborhood and she was loved and admired by all people! This wonderful chair enabled her to run after cyclists, joggers and even cats and dogs again. Bella made headlines in two of our daily Namibian Newspapers with her Walkin' Wheels Chair, she was the talk of the town! Sadly after only 8 months in the chair, Bella unfortunately hurt her spine so severely that the vet saw no other option but to put her down. At the age of 11.5 years Bella fell asleep peacefully on her soft cushion in my kitchen. We wish we had ordered the chair sooner but are extremely greatful for the wonderful 8 months that Bella could experience in her Walkin' Wheels Chair. We treasure her memories fondly and miss Bella every day! We however have many nice photos of her in her chair.
