Sunny

This is my two and half year old miracle, Sunshine....better know as "Sunny".  The name, hence given, the beautiful sunny day he showed up in my world....full of life and spirit, never knowing a stranger.  He was only probably 10-12 wks old then, a stray,  shabby coat, and half starved, but yet he won my heart immediately.  We gradually started to "take him in", not knowing whether he belonged to someone else in the neighborhood or not, but still we provided him with everything he needed, lots of good nutrition and water, and a nice new dog house with lots of cozy bedding inside and TONS of toys.

We rent the 1 acre lot on which we live, and are not even supposed to have pets, so we were limited in what we could do as far as confining him (a lot, etc.)  For the most part he was at our house most of the time, for several weeks, but he was still a stray, I guess, by his own right, for he would take off from time to time, doing the "boy" thing I guess.

To make a long story short, he had been gone for over a week in early winter, showing up one morning with his front left leg, hanging by only a thread at the wrist.  I felt totally responsible for this happening to him, I should have found a way to keep him at home....I should've "given" him a home.   We immediately rushed him to the veterinarians office, (who, by the way, are God's Angels in my book), there was nothing they could do to save his leg, the damage was to extensive, seemed he had been caught in a trap, and from the looks of things, someone had the audacity to actually free him from it.  We decided to go ahead and have him neutered at that time too, and went that very day (despite what our lease says) and bought him a huge chain link lot.

Sunny recovered wonderfully and is in tip top health, I think he suffered mentally, much more than physically, and has gone through very dramatic personality changes, however he is still his "momma's baby boy"!   Being handicapped hasn't impaired him in the very least, in fact, I swear he is 10 times faster now, that he was before the accident.   It has been almost two years now, since his surgery, and other than a few minor altercations with neighborhood strays, he has recovered completely, a little less friendly (except for close family and friends),  a little more reserved...and a lot more loved!   I thank God everyday for sending Sunshine to me, I consider it a great privilege and honor to be the owner of such a smart, brave, loving, and beautiful animal.

Thanks for letting me share him with you,

Nancy
