This
was Babe, the light of my life. I rescued her from a Dalmatian Rescue
organization on February 27, 2003, to be a companion dog for my disabled
husband. My mother and I drove from Maryland to Pennsylvania in
a snowstorm to get her so my husband would be surprised when we walked
through the door. My husband fell in love with her at first sight.
Babe began to have severe seizures that caused her to become aggressive
about two months after I got her. The vet said that the seizures
were impairing her vision, and causing her to become aggressive toward
other animals and some humans. As the months passed her aggression
became worse, especially toward other dogs, because although we tried
a number of things from medication to changing her diet, she still had
the seizures.. One day while outside she had a really bad one, and
later attacked and almost killed another dog, her behavior was the worst
I've seen that day. She would throw herself up against my sliding
glass door when another animal would wander nearby, and growl at joggers.
Toward the end of the day the seizures became really bad, and I took her
to the vets for some advice and some options besides putting her down.
The vet said there was nothing she could do because Babe wasn't responding
to medication. With counseling and other options, we thought it
best to have her go to Rainbow Bridge before she attacked a child, or
seriously injure another dog.
We are still grieving over Babe, she died in June, and our lives haven't
been the same. Especially my husband who she entertained all day
with her antics while I was working and he and Babe were left alone for
eight hours. We'll miss her dearly!
