Nashua, New Hampshire (November 19, 2012) - HandicappedPets.com recently joined efforts in support of the Sew for Sandy pets campaign to assist animal victims of Hurricane Sandy. The local effort coordinated by high school art students is providing handcrafted blankets to pets that were displaced by the storm and are residing temporarily in shelters throughout the Northeast.
Chase Terranova, a Merrimack High School senior and member of the National Art Honor Society, was searching for ways that her local NAHS chapter 2538 could support the victims of Hurricane Sandy. A Twitter hashtag #SewforSandy caught her eye and led to a Huffington Post article titled, "Sew for Sandy: Crafts to Aid Pets Affected by the Hurricane". Terranova brought the project to the attention of her art teacher Shanna Gray and fellow senior art student Alyssa Brancheau for consideration.
They all agreed that Sew for Sandy would be a wonderful way for the NAHS to use their talents in support of the disaster victims, but they lacked funding to purchase materials for the blankets. Shanna Gray immediately thought to approach HandicappedPets.com in Nashua and seek their assistance with the project. Gray's own dog Cole had successfully used a Walkin' Wheels dog wheelchair, and she knew that the company was committed to supporting pets in need.
"Many customers and supporters of HandicappedPets.com were severely impacted by Hurricane Sandy. We consider it a privilege to be able to provide financial support and create awareness of this local effort by the National Art Honor Society members," explained Mark C. Robinson, President of HandicappedPets.com.
