Here is Yodi, a 10 month old rat terrier.

On June 27th, he was attacked by a pit bull. He had to have surgery to repair several tears in his chest wall muscle/tissue, a blood transfusion, surgery to remove tissue that was decaying from the bite wounds, skin graft surgery to repair the area where the tissue had died, and in the end, had to have his left front leg amputated because the leg was traumatized, the tissue was dying, and sending toxins into his body. Ever since the leg was amputated, he's recovered wonderfully and is doing great! We're very thankful that he received the care that he did and we're happy to have our puppy back home and healthy

I have a handicapped pet. She was born with deformed foot. She does well with it. She is a little chi. I think when they are born this way they learn to adjust. This picture shows her little cripped foot. We love her so much and is spoiled rotten. She does not let this handcap slow her down. Anniemae

My beloved dog Smokey

My beloved dog Smokey suddenly went blind about two weeks ago; I am devastated, not only by this, but because he has other serious problems. He was taken to a kill shelter at 7 1/2 when his owner died; fortunately a rescue group got him out before he was killed but he was passed around for months. Then he and I got together and it's been true love ever since! Bless his heart, he not only is blind, but I fear an ignorant vet might have contributed to it. So I am angry and feeling guilty. Is there anything a guardian can do when we suspect a vet of being incompetent? I have now found a wonderful vet who not only treats allopathically but with herbs and acupunture as well. Hopefully the little guy can get some relief from his serious orthopedic problems. So I am so glad I found your site. I don't feel so alone.

Her name is Patches

She is a Chihuahua. She was born missing her front right leg, and they were going to put her to sleep. That's where WE came in! I went to look at a litter of Chihuahua's, and that's how me and Patches found each other. 4 weeks old, just sitting there while the rest of the puppies jumped and played. I had to have HER. I didn't want a "normal" puppy, as the people suggested. I wanted Patches. I paid the lady, and home we went. She is now 3 months old, and runs, jumps, plays with our other Chihuahua's, and even digs holes! The only sad part to this story is that we found out that Patches needs a surgery. 3 different vets have told me that she has to have that "stump" removed, because she tries to use it too much, and that it is twisting her bones real bad. They say that she will be totally cripple by the time she is 2 years old if I don't have the surgery done. The total price will be about $2,200. Chihuahua@bellsouth.net

Jackie and her Wheels

Here is Jackie, found her at about 6 weeks old in an alley covered with mange and who knows what? Got run over later, amputated her tail but was pretty alright after getting infections at the vet from the operation. Next she had herniated disk and operation failed yet the pool was great and the cart was heaven sent as well. Then developed dysplacia on top of her incontenance made it impossible to keep her going.

Scooter, the amputee rabbit

Thought I'd let you know that Scooter, the amputee rabbit, is doing terrific. It's been two years since he broke his back and had to have his rear legs amputated due to atrophy. He is an extremely active guy, a terrific pet, and a dear friend.

In Memory of Skye

Skye was thrown off a bridge and had her back broken…….but lived two more years with me after I got her from German Shepherd Rescue. She broke my heart when she died right before Christmas! Leslie

Tarzan

This is Tarzan, our 4 month old English Mastiff. He was born with a unformed leg. He gets around fine, and can run with the best of them. He is the love of our life. Joyce and Dennis Columbus, IN.

Ellie

My little Dachshund Ellie. She has a ruptured disc in her spine and has lost the use of her back legs and bladder. She has a great set of wheels and is a lovely happy little girl. She is 7 years old and I have been nursing her for 18 months. Love to all . Jill and Ellie

Ellies Wheels

Ellie`s pic is already in the gallery but she has a new set of wheels and wanted to show everyone.

Tippy

Tippy took his first steps in his new chair today (we'll never forget the day. Chris Stevens from the Tail Wagon and Mixed Up Mutts is the most wonderful person. I really want people to know just how much Cris cares. Enclosed is Tippy's first walk with his Grandma. Thanks again for your site and all the information we receive from it.Tippy's Mom & Dad (Kathy & Rick)

Koji

Koji is 10 years old and had her front leg amputated October 2002 because of a nerve sheath tumor in her brachial plexus. When we first got the terrible news, we weren't sure that putting her through such invasive surgery was the best choice. So I searched the web for information and came to Kissy's story on this website. It was exactly what we needed to read, and it prompted our decision to go ahead with the surgery. We could not be happier with the results. Three weeks after the surgery Koji started to walk again, and now she can run and play just like old times. Best of all, it's the first time she is pain-free in over a year. Thanks to HandicappedPets.com and Kissy, Koji has more time left on this planet and we are all so thankful!

Kissy

Kissy is ten years old and lives in Norway. Two summers ago, she began to limp and it steadily got worse, until her front leg was useless. The only option was to amputate, so we travelled to a Neurology spesialist in England, where Kissys leg was amputated at the Queen Mother Hospital, which is part of the Royal Veterinary College. Her leg was amputated just over a year ago, the diagnosis being a brachial plexus tumour - a tumour in the nerves in her left shoulder. She is equally active with just three legs and manages to run and jump as she used to when she had four legs. She is a very good example that handicapped dogs can have a very good quality of life. I feel honoured and priveliged to have her.

Missy

Missy in her Slee-Pee Bed for incontinence.

"Got the bed yesterday and Missy acts as tho' it was made just for her. Thanks!"

Rocket

He is a picture of Rocket. He is a cocker spaniel who was handicapped at age 4. He is 6 now. He has a great disposition and strong will.

Thanks, from Sally

Safari

Blue and Spirit have a baby brother! A BIG baby brother.(He is only three months old and is getting huge!) Safari is a Catahoula Leopard Dog and is deaf! I am sending a picture of him with Santa. Blue has already taught him to use the pet door. He and Blue (who is deaf and blind) are very smart! I would recommend to anyone who loves animals to adopt a deaf dog. I found Safari on the deaf dog site and adopted him from a breeder in south FL. He belongs to my children, Arielle and Sierra and my foster son Marlo

Blue and Spirit

I adopted Blue from Twyla's Friends Rescue and he is a very special member of our family. He is a lethal white Aussie and is both blind and deaf. He can see shadows out of one eye in certain lights. He is very intelligent and living with him is not much different from living with our sighted dogs. We love him very much and are very grateful to Twyla's Friends and Blue's foster parents for letting us adopt him. Here is another picture of Blue with our Husky Spirit.

Michele Dagenais

Fred

Fred is a basset 12yrs old that has 3 blown disc's he was not supposed to walk again and it turns out he hasn't regained any of his nerve tissue he has just taught himself to walk all over again he has an amazing will to live and is just the light of my life

Eddie

Eddie was abandoned by his mom a couple of days after he was born with a congenital birth defect (no right eye and no right nostril). He is also blind in his left eye due to an opacity. We hand raised him from 3 or 4 days of age and he is doing just wonderfully. He is 11 weeks old now and has developed into quite the inspiration for us both. Your website and the people I've met on here have helped us get through the initial toughness of hand raising and orphan as well as dealing with his special needs as a handicapped pet. Thank you for that

Sweet Pea

This is Sweet Pea. She was rescued from a mass mailing facility in Compton by a guard who works there. She has a broken spine at L5 that is healing at a 45 degree angle. She has limited use of her hind legs and is incontinent. Aside from radical surgery to re-break and straighten her spine, there is nothing that the vets can do for her. She is a wonderful little girl, and is about 4 months old. I am her foster mom, and rescue for a non-profit cat rescue group called People & Cats Together.

Lord

He has a cancer and it damaged his back. Lord (my dog's name)is a German Shephard and He is big dog. He weighs 105 pounds. Before he got sick, he used to weigh 145 pounds. My entire income is covering all of his medications. I can't afford a wheelchair for him. If you have one available, I would like to borrow it. He may live only several months. My family and I want to give him our best in his last days. Regardless of my plans to immigrate to the US, my husband and I welcomed the dog to our family and brought him from Ukraine to USA. We can't imagine our lives without him.

Thanks, Victoriya

Keller

You can get the whole Keller story at http://laser2mail.com/special/keller

In a nutshell, I have had Keller for about 2 weeks. She is such an adventure.

She was rescued from a horse barn where the "owner" was going to shoot her

because she couldn't catch mice etc.

So this flea ridden bag of bones was brought in to a vet that decided to try to

save her. She is blind, deaf, suffers heart and kidney trouble, and nooneno

onely knows how old she is.

Spunky

Spunky was blinded by herpes eye infections at 2 months old, but you'd never

know it unless you saw her scars. She runs around just like the others,

although it took a long time before she would jump. Even now, climbing is

her favorite airborne transportation.

Tripod

Tripod's left arm was amputated by a fan belt when she was 2 months old;

this is a very early pic of her enjoying her rehab with a ping pong ball in

the bathtub!

Fleur

Fleur didn't have much luck in her life. She was found on the street by someone. That guy couldn't decided if he wanted to keep her or not. Fleur made a very bad fall in house and broke her back. The guy decided to end her life cause he didn't want to spend any money on her. I just found out in time about Fleur. I saved Fleur from him and brought her to my vet. Fleur stayed there for a month. She was so spoiled by that vet. She came home and went downhill fast. After a month she stopped eating. I told her I would take her to the vet for a last trip so she didn't had to suffer. Took her to bed with me one last time. In the morning I put her in her cage and went to work. She left to the bridge while I was gone to work. I think she waited to leave until I was gone. She was still in the same position as I left her when I came home. I so much wished I could have been there for her when she left. She was such a nice girl. I'm glad for the little time I had with her. At least she experienced how it felt to be loved

Mietje

Mietje is bitten by a dog witch caused a spinal injury. This happened almost three months ago. Mietje has no feeling in her back legs and can't walk. She will get a wheelchair soon if there is no improvement in her legs.

Princess

Princess my dear angel made a very bad fall in the pet shop and had a spine injury.. There was no way I could walk out of that pet shop without taking her home. Princess first didn't seem to have any problems with the fact that she couldn't walk. She crawled around the house and had fun with my other prairie dogs. After a few weeks she started to chew herself. I find a way to stop her from doing that. Unfortunately she started to have other problems. I was blessed to have her with me for 6 months. Unfortunately my little girl had to leave to the bridge a few days before christmas. She will be missed for ever.
