What if Your Dog Became Paralyzed?

Life doesn't have to be a drag for a handicapped pet

To Happily Ever After

Dog Vex was hit by a car

From Seemingly Hopeless

Lending a Hand to a Paralyzed Dog

There are a number of reasons why a dog may be unable to walk on his or her own.  The situation could be due to the advanced stages of a progressive condition such as arthritis or degenerative myelopathy.  A dog can also become paralyzed as a result of a sudden injury or illness.

HandicappedPets.com is well known for its signature product -
the Walkin' Wheels dog wheelchair, but did you know that we have a variety of pet mobility products to aid in either the long term care or during the recovery of a down dog?

Recently, we had the privilege of assisting in the rescue and adoption of Vex - a street dog from Romania who had been hit by a car.  She now happily resides with a new adoptive family in New York.

We are Here to Support You

Lift and Assist a Dog with Limited Mobilty

When a dog is down, pet caretakers need to be able to assist their canine companions without risking injury to themselves.  Whether your dog is experiencing mobility problems in the front and/or rear legs, HandicappedPets.com has a  dog harness or sling to provide safe and effective lifting support.

Pictured at left is the before and after result provided by the Walkin' Support Sling.   It is ideal for use with a dog that needs assistance with getting to his or her feet but is then able to walk with some of its weight being supported.

Splints Provide Support for Injury or Illness

A pet's loss of mobility can be the result of an injury or illness that ultimately will heal if provided with the right level of support during the recovery process.

The Walkin' Wheels pet splints are ideal for providing stability and support for the lower aspect of the front or rear limbs.  Available in a range of sizes and styles to accommodate different sizes of dogs and a variety of supportive needs.

A Network of Handicapped Pet Caretakers

HandicappedPets.com has all of the products that you need to care for your elderly, disabled or injured pets.  However, sometimes the most important thing a caretaker of a handicapped pet needs is the support of someone who has experienced a similar situation with his or her beloved companion.

While not a substitute for veterinary care, the handicapped pets help and advice forum is THE online resource for personal accounts detailing the challenges and rewards of caring for a pet with special needs.

In addition to the help and advice forum, we invite you to connect with the members of the the handicapped pet community on our social networks at the links provided below.  Share your photos, stories and experiences while connecting with fellow caretakers who understand your unique needs.
