Handicapped Pets December 2010 Newsletter

HandicappedPets

As we celebrate another rewarding year of providing products, services and support for handicapped pets, we want to thank you for sharing of our mission and wish you all a very Healthy and Happy New Year!   We invite you to take a look back at a few of this year's many inspiring handicapped pets - Faith, Fandango, Lucy and Ru Ru.

You Gotta Have Faith

Faith and Walkin' WheelsHandicappedPets.com was privileged to be a part of the transformation of Faith from Underdog to Wonderdog as seen on Animal Planet.

The Saturday, January 30, 2010 episode "You Gotta Have Faith" followed the puppy on her journey from an underdog that had been abandoned in a box at the Animal Center of Queens in New York City, to regaining mobility using her Walkin' Wheels, and then completing her transformation into a wonderdog when she was placed with her adoptive family.

Fandango Rolls Along from Foster Care to a New Family

The Walkin' Wheels for Handicapped Pets also enabled a pit bull named Fandango to find his way to a new family.  The inspiring pit bull was rescued by Kathi Taylor from an animal shelter in Georgia in May 2009.

After receiving his Walkin' Wheels thanks to the fundraising efforts of fourth graders in Velma, Oklahoma, Fandango then spent several months in foster care before finding a new family in New Hampshire in March 2010.

Fandango's journey from Georgia to New Hampshire via assistance from Oklahoma was also recently featured in Woman's World Magazine.

Lucy Becomes First Paralyzed Dog in a Wheelchair to Climb Mt. Washington

Lucy, a dog that was rescued from the streets of Puerto Rico after becoming paralyzed in a car accident, became the first ever dog in a wheelchair to reach the summit of Mount Washington - the tallest peak in the Northeastern United States.

Lucy uses a Walkin' Wheels dog wheelchair that was donated to her by HandicappedPets.com in 2008.  Lucy's historic climb on August 18, 2010 attracted media attention from around the world.

A video of her journey is available for viewing on You Tube.  Lucy also has her own personal fan page on Facebook where she shares current photos and updates about her life as a very happy and active handicapped pet.

Ru Ru the Dachshund Attracts Nationwide Attention in Search for a New Home

Ru Ru and Walkin WheelsRu Ru had a home with a playful Rottweiler that unintentionally paralyzed him by stepping on his back.

Unfortunately, the time and expense of caring for Ru Ru and his disability was too much for his family to handle, so they placed him up for adoption with their local animal shelter in the hopes that a new home with the appropriate time and resources could be located.

The Humane Society of Naples worked quickly to find a loving home for Ru Ru.  The humane society outfitted Ru Ru with a Walkin' Wheels Mini dog wheelchair and actively marketed his need for an adopter who was capable of handling his special needs.

News reports about Ru Ru were broadcast nationwide, and numerous adoption inquiries, some from as far away as Canada, were immediately received at the shelter in Florida.

Ru Ru soon had a new family just in time for the holidays!
