Historic Climb Inspires Pets and People Around the World
On August 18, 2010 at 11:30 a.m., after six hours and two minutes of climbing and several weeks of preparation for the attempt, Lucy became the first ever paralyzed dog in a wheelchair to reach the summit of Mt. Washington - the tallest peak in the Northeastern United States.
Lucy, a four year old mixed breed, was rescued from the streets of Puerto Rico after being hit by a car in 2006. Lucy resided at the Second Chance Animal Rescue for nearly two years until her current owner Courtney Dunning adopted her and brought her to live in New Hampshire in 2008.

The Online Source for Help and Advice
With over 70,000 posts organized and overseen by a dedicated group of volunteers with extensive, real life experience in caring for pets with special needs, the HandicappedPets.com discussion forum is the online source for help and advice for caretakers of elderly, injured or disabled pets.
Recently, the owner of another dog named Lucy (not to be confused with Lucy the dog that climbed Mt. Washington) posted a frantic call for assistance at the help and advice forum titled URGENT - help - dog hit by car, can't move back end. The first veterinarian recommended euthanasia, but this determined dog owner wanted a little more time to seek a second opinion. Thanks to the experience and advice of other caretakers, Lucy and her owner were able to get a much needed second opinion which made all the difference!
