Oliver

The following is a letter from Pam Mayes of Alabama Pug Rescue & Adoption regarding a recent rescue who is currently at Mississippi State University Veterinary School. Oliver, a darling little black Pug boy, was attacked by a pit bull and suffered from a broken neck. He's an amazing boy with a will to live and recover, but currently he is a quadriplegic Pug. We are hoping for at least some partial recovery and perhaps for him to one day be able to use a cart, but currently his needs are extensive. Please feel free to crosspost this message to other Pug and rescue groups...we need help with his care. Memphis Pug Rescue has been very gracious in providing Oliver's initial intensive care requirements. If you are interested in donating to help with Oliver's care, please read below for more information...if I can answer any questions, you can contact me at whynotpugs@aol.com.

We have taken in approximately six rescues in the month of February alone and have three more coming...if you are interested in adopting, please go to www.alabamapugrescue.org and fill out an application.

Thank you for reading this message!

"As you probably know by now we have taken over "custody" of Oliver for the rest of his rehabilitation and will make all decisions regarding his future. Anna recognized how "special" this little guy is and also knows how our world, and "A Place for Hope" revolves around the special needs Pugs. I am talking to the vet already two to three times a day; and will be meeting with her, the staff and Oliver tomorrow. We are already heading toward discharge in a few weeks; and we have our vets and specialists on standby and ready to meet all of his needs. He will be with me indefinitely and in constant rehabilitation.

I want to thank Anna and Memphis Pug Rescue for taking over the medical expenses during his stay in Intensive Care. Please urge people wanting to donate toward his "in hospital care" expense to do so to Memphis Pug Rescue at this time or to Mississippi State University Veterinary School in care of "Oliver." We also will accept donations toward his care when he comes home and for his future needs. This may be done by visiting our website at www.alabamapugrescue.org. At this time he is not a wheelchair candidate, but is in need of a mobility cart. If anyone can help us with this expense, again, please contact me privately.

At this time, Oliver is not available for adoption; and when and if the time comes that he is, we will certainly welcome all applications for review. There are so many wonderful seniors and special needs dogs across the nation who are too long in rescue; maybe, in Oliver's name; this would be a time for those wanting to adopt a special needs or senior to look at the options available.

Again, thank you all for your prayers and support; and especially to Anna and Memphis Pug Rescue for reaching out to us, and coming together with us in their rescue efforts. This sweet friends, is what rescue is all about.

We will be posting updates about Oliver on our website in the near future. In the interim, please keep us in your prayers as we attempt to once again make a difference in the life of a Pug.
