Johanna's Continuing Story. For those of you new to the newsletter, a group of Oklahoma School children raised money for airfare and a cart for a dog who was abused by another group of kids. The story is here.

On Friday, she gets 400 words on a national press release. On Monday she gets her wheels under the watchful lens of Channel 6 News, Portland. Check the site for more photos and a tape of the show if we can get it.

Homemade booties: Many dogs, especially elderly dogs, don't like hardwood floors because they can slip and fall. Frequently, we suggest throw-rugs or dog boots. Ellen has another idea. Infant knit booties with "Jiffy Grip" make a great substitute. Read and join the discussion here.

Dog Helmet. We were originally looking for helmets for blind dogs, but readers have let us know that epileptic dogs and elderly dogs can also be prone to concussion. Suitable for any dog (or other pet) that could fall down. Necessary for dogs on bikes. One blind dog caretaker glued short antennae on the front to help the dog get around. Great Idea!

Lifetime Achievement Award: I just found out that some of you have been nominating me for the lifetime achievement award from the ASPCA. Thank you.  I'm really honored by your support and I appreciate the recommendation. It's not me that's being nominated, though, it's the website and all of you -- the community -- who make it work. The point is to create awareness of the sacred, loving bond that is created when we care for our elderly, injured, and handicapped friends. Recognition by the ASPCA would help us in this endeavor. Discussions and link to ASPCA page is here.

Handicapped Pets aren't just Cats and Dogs. Sebastian is our favorite duck on wheels. See her website here. She just celebrated her 10th birthday. For her present, we gave her a discussion board all her own. Speaking of other handicapped pets, take a look at the three-legged Iguana, Fifi.

With sincere thanks to Alice Cook and the amazing Canine Inherited Disorders Database, we now have a full listing of genetic disorders here. Each item links to the CIDD website where full information is available. This is a great resource for all of us.

Improved SleePee Time Bed. We've reinforced the mesh and made several important improvements to the bed. We've also found a reliable production house and will soon be manufacturing enough to get them into pet stores. Unfortunately, we'll be raising the price... but not quite yet. If you want one of these cool, comfortable beds, ideal for incontinent pets, now's the time. Corky not included. "Hey Angela! Corky made the Newsletter!"

Summer pet shows are here! If you're going to have a booth at one, hang our banner and we'll chip in!

Warmest regards to all our fellow caretakers!
