Project PetCareAware. The mission of HandicappedPets.com is to show people that elderly, disabled, and special needs pets can live happy, healthy, quality lives. The way we do this is with stories, photos, and videos of happy, healthy, handicapped pets. We've had several requests from TV stations, magazines, and newspapers looking for local handicapped pets that they can feature. Would you be willing to tell your story? If so, please let us know. If you haven't seen the newscast about Johanna's story, click here. To participate, click here

How to communicate with your animal. Noted Animal Communicator, Cindy Smith, offers some inspiring tips on how to talk to your animal.
I walked into Trisha's house the other day... a lovely family with between 4 and 7 dogs (depending on which relative or friend has gone on vacation), and a lapful of cats. One of the dogs started barking when I came in, someone started shouting at the dog, the other dogs started barking, people started shouting at the dogs. Everyone was barking! As I stood there, I realized that these people have taught the dogs that when someone comes in the door, all hell breaks loose. So they bark.... Cindy's page has some great tips.

Animal Wellness Article. Animal Wellness Magazine printed our article about caring for a handicapped pet... but an editor did an annoying search-and-replace. They fixed it in the on-line version but if you also get the printed version can you find it? If you like the article, let them know you want to see more by Mark Robinson. Let them know how important it is that they support caretakers of handicapped pets. You can see the Article here. |
| Disaster Preparedness for Pets. The likelihood that you and your animals will survive an emergency such as a fire or flood, tornado or terrorist attack depends largely on emergency planning done today. Some of the things you can do to prepare for the unexpected, such as assembling an animal emergency supply kit and developing a pet care buddy system, are the same for any emergency. HandicappedPets.com 24/7? Like most businesses, we are open between 9 and 5, Eastern Standard Time. The number of calls we have been getting after hours is significant and we felt that the simple voicemail system was disappointing. So we contracted with a call center/message center. Now, 24/7, your calls are taken by real people. The unfortunate part of this, though, is that these 'real people' can't really do anything other than take messages. Callers have found this frustrating as well. So here's our dilemma, Call Center or Voice Mail? Call center involves talking to someone who is reading off a script. Voice mail can get you to more information "Press 1 to learn about harnesses..." Your opinion would be appreciated.
