The back of the dog is held in place by our leg rings, or our rear harness. We have found that most dogs adapt quickly to the leg rings. For animals with more complicated comfort needs, our rear support harness can be a convenient and stable harnessing system. The leg rings are included with the cart. The harness is optional.
The front harness goes around the neck of the dog, with another strap (red) that clips underneath the chest.
The Parts of the Dog Wheelchair
About three turns of the knob should be enough. Do not turn the dial so that it comes all the way off -- although if you do, it is easy to screw back on.
Width Connectors:
The back connector connects the left and right side of the frame together. If the width of your dog is 5 - 9 1/2 inches, you will use the smaller back connector. 9 - 13.5 inches will need the longer connector. Don't worry though, the "Cart Wizard" will choose the correct size for you when you get to our shopping cart to buy a walkin' wheels.
Length Extenders:
These are called the Length Extenders. The length extender connects the front harness in place with the cart. The length extenders are adjustable. However there are two different sizes. If your animal's length is 18-25 inches you will need the larger extender, If the animal is 9-19 inches you will need the smaller extender.
Struts:
These are the struts. They are what the wheels are attached to which then snap into the cart. The struts are adjustable within a range of about three inches. The struts come in 4 different sizes from 6 to 15 inches. The correct strut will be chosen for you based on the "Groin to Ground" measurement.
Available are 4 sizes of Foam-Filled wheels; 4", 8", and (not shown) 12" and 16". The 12" and 16" wheels are outfitted with bearings and are also available as Air-Filled pneumatic tires for active dogs, improved traction, and off-road use.The correct size wheel is chosen based on the Groin to Ground measurement.
Walkin Wheels Handles:
Our Walkin’ Wheels rear harness becomes a handy lifting sling when you attach these adjustable straps. Great for helping dogs around when they are not in the cart. Easy on your back too! Safe and easy to use. They clip onto the rings on the rear harness or the leg rings. Straps can also be clipped onto the stirrup holders on the back of the cart to help lift the wheelchair.
These are used to keep your animal's back legs from dragging on the ground or if the legs are paralyzed or weak. The length of the stirrups can be easily adjusted by moving the clip down on the rope and re-tying the knot.
The Manual:
It comes with every cart order, and has very easy step by step instructions on how to adjust and use the cart. You can see a full-color version of the manual by clicking here.
Because of it's unique design and compact size, the Mini Walkin Wheels is easy to transport. It does not fold or come with a Tote Bag (only the regular cart is designed to fold and has the tote bag to carry it around.)
