Canine Orthotics includes leg braces and splints designed to support specific aspects of dog's leg. They are typically custom-made or custom-adjusted for the dog, and based on a veterinary diagnosis and a plaster cast that is made for the dog's injured leg. Typically, they will cost between $600 and $800, but can vary depending on the size and weight of the pet and the type of device that is needed.

Canine Prosthetics refer to devices that replace a missing leg or foot. After a consultation with your veterinarian, custom K9 prosthetics are custom-designed for your dog. They are based on a plaster cast made of what remains of the leg. Typically, they cost around $1,200 and include a two-stage fitting process where a device is made for the dog then, after it has been used for a time, adjusted for an exact fit.

Canine Splints are simple off-the-shelf support devices that are ordered based on leg measurements and used to support an injured or healing lower leg (only). More on dog leg splints can be found here.

Examples of the different types of prosthetics and orthotics are shown below on this page.

How to Order:

Get a referral from your Vet (Click to view the form) - Prosthetics and Orthotics are prescribed by your veterinarian. Your vet will fill out a K9 Prosthetic and K9 Orthotics referral form. Please fill in and fax back to us at (603) 584-9349

Review the checklist (Click to view the form) - The form outlines the steps necessary.

Complete the customer agreement  for either an ORTHOTIC or a PROSTHETIC with the manufacturer. All devices are manufactured by our partner; a leading team of professionals located in Denver, Colorado. They will be working directly with both you and your veterinarian to assure the best possible outcome. Please fill in and fax back to us at (603) 584-9349.

Take measurements and Create a Plaster Cast.  Your veterinarian may have the necessary fiberglass casting materials. If not, they can be purchased directly from the manufacturer and you can bring the kit to your vet to have the cast made. This is an ideal time to take measurements and fill in a measurement for that is specific to the injury.
