I'm Nancy Marcantel, the president and founder of Animal Rescue Foundation (ARF) of Louisiana. I've rescued dogs and cats all my life but made it official in 1999 when ARF was awarded its 501(c)3 status. Since then, we've saved hundreds of dogs and cats in south Louisiana and placed them in homes.
Every now and then an animal comes in that is just not adoptable. It may be too old or too sick and so stays with me or one of our volunteers until the time comes for him to go to Rainbow Bridge. Such was the case with a tiny Chihuahua mix someone brought to me early in 2001. The little guy had emphysema and congestive heart failure and the vet told me he didn't have long to live. Well, I took him in and loved him and started him on natural supplements, as well as prescription bronchodilators and lasix. That little guy became such a wonderful part of our lives and lived until this past Wednesday. He had recently gone completely blind and was losing his hearing, but he still loved to eat!
We figure he was about 11 when he came to us, and his heart was already enlarged, but he was a trooper! He loved to ride in the car and to go to the camp where he could search for crawfish!
I'm so sad right now that I just wanted to tell someone who would understand how hard it is to say goodbye to a loved one who has been a moment by moment part of my life for many years. Please place his story and picture on your page to let people know that no matter how old they are, they can still be great pets!
Additionally, I would hope that when anyone clicks on his page, that ARF would be the beneficiary of your donation.
