Bonnie

Bonnie is 12-16 weeks old five pound brown dachshund  tweeny puppy.  She was found dumped in a nice neighborhood about 7 am.  We suspect she is from a puppy mill because when we took her to the vet she was diagnosed with a grade 5 heart murmur.  We suspect she was dumped because she could not be sold. It was discussed with the initial vet if it was necessary to euthanize Bonnie or let her live until she becomes symptomatic.  We decided to let her have a chance at being a puppy.

The vet contacted DFW Dachshund Rescue Foundation and they placed her with foster mom Gina W. RN for dogie hospice.   (that's me)

Bonnie was examined by Dr. Ashley Saunders DVM at Animal Diagnostic Clinic August 4th and a PDA was confirmed.  She said Bonnie is the perfect candidate because she is not symptomatic. A PDA is a hole between two major vessels of the heart.  It is easily fixable with a survival rate of 98-99% from surgery and the dog will live a normal and full life.  However, if it is not fixed the dog will become symptomatic of congestive heart failure with fatigue, difficulty breathing and respiratory distress and have to be euthanized.

Dr. Saunders is a cardiologist vet at Texas A&M Vet School.  She comes up to Dallas once a month to see dogs.  There are only three vets in Texas that can do the "coil" surgery she recommends for Bonnie.  It is minimally invasive via the femoral artery.

I (Gina W.) will agree to take Bonnie to Texas A&M and pay for any after care.  I have paid for three vet visits so far including the cardiologist.

We need to raise about $2200 to $2500 for the procedure.
