Charley Bear is a young retriever cross who was found abandoned on a road in north Moorhead last April, cold, wet, and full of cockleburs. He had trouble getting to his feet and his foster family took him to the vet. Charley was diagnosed with bilateral (both sides) hip dysplasia. Left untreated, this is a painful and debilitating condition for the affected dog. The good news is that Charley's veterinarian believes that with surgery to repair his hip sockets, Charley will be able to live a long and nearly pain-free life.
His foster mom has found a vet in Colorado who is willing to do the surgery for just the cost of the joint implants, waiving his usual surgical fee. With the costs for x-rays, follow-up appointments, pain medication, and incidentals, they anticipate that the total bill will be between $7,000 and $8,000.
Charley's foster-mom has been working hard to find ways to finance his surgery. She has written 5 grants (2 were approved and 3 more are pending), organized dog washes, and auctioned donated items on e-bay to raise money to defray expenses.
We would like to give our Adopt-A-Pet viewers chance to help this great young dog have a normal life. Here are some ways that YOU can help Charley Bear: Donations can be sent online via Paypal to Charley_Bear@hotmail.com or they can be sent directly to one of the following addresses:
