What Makes the SureFit® Calculator the Best Choice?

SureFit® Guarantee: we guarantee the perfect size, or we’ll pay your return shipping costs if an exchange is needed. That way there’s no doubt your pet will get the perfect fit.

We highly recommend using our SureFit® Calculator as it ensures the perfect custom fit for your pet. It requires a couple measurements, but only so we can provide your pet with the very best experience.

We recognize this takes a few minutes of your time, but those minutes are worth the happiness your pet will experience once they try out their wheelchair for the first time. Our wheelchairs have already helped more than 81,000 other pets. Let’s make that 81,001!

Other companies simply have you select a wheelchair based on weight, but that often results in a poor fit. Why? A 30 lb bulldog has a very different body type from a 30 lb corgi, but those companies will provide both with the same wheelchair.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the Walkin’ Wheels dog wheelchair work?

The Walkin’ Wheels rear dog wheelchair is designed to support a pet’s hind legs from underneath, providing stability and reducing pressure on their back legs. The wheels of the cart are aligned with the pet’s hips, enabling proper support in a natural standing position. This allows the pet to walk naturally while using the wheelchair or lift their legs off the ground using the stirrups if they are paralyzed.

Is my pet able to pee or poop while using the wheelchair?

Yes! In fact, your dog’s wheelchair is designed so that dogs can go to the bathroom and get the exercise they need. Not only can pets pee and poop while using their dog wheelchair, but their wheelchair also actually encourages them to go. A “down” dog tends to be less active, which can impact the internal functions of their body. Once a dog is in their wheelchair, they are standing upright and moving more, which encourages their body to function correctly and allow them to relieve themselves naturally.

How does it work?

Both male and female pets can pee and poop freely while using their wheelchair. Their hind end is fully supported from underneath by their rear leg rings, keeping them in a comfortable and natural standing position. There is plenty of clearance for them to relieve themselves cleanly while using their new cart. Although your pet can not squat while in their wheelchair, they will relieve themselves while standing; many pets adjust to this quickly.

How do I measure my dog for a wheelchair?

It’s easy to determine the right size Walkin’ Wheels wheelchair for your pet. All you need is one simple measurement to choose the right size wheelchair for your pet:

  1. Measure the Rear Leg Height, from the top of the leg where it attaches to the abdomen down to the toe pad, when your pet is lying down. Do not pull the leg tight; leave some natural bend.

A dog does not need to be fully paralyzed to benefit from using a dog wheelchair. If the rear legs are paralyzed, then the stirrups will keep their legs from dragging.

Can my dog use their Walkin’ Wheels inside the house?

Yes. Many dogs will use their Walkin’ Wheels wheelchair both indoors and outside. Inside the house, the medium wheelchair can maneuver around furniture, across the floor, and easily fits through narrow doors and hallways. Remember, using a wheelchair is new for your best friend, too. It may take your dog some time to learn how to navigate around indoor obstacles. Your dog’s wheelchair does camber outwards at the wheels. When first trying the wheelchair, we recommend doing it outside so your dog can get used to using their wheelchair without having to worry about bumping into furniture. We recommend a lot of praise and encouragement as your dog gets used to life on wheels!  We recommend a lot of praise and encouragement as your dog gets used to life on wheels!

Can my dog lie down in the wheelchair?

If you have a Corgi or a similar breed, it is OK for them to take a rest up against a pillow or bed, because their legs are so short. Otherwise, it is not recommended, due to back or disc issues that could worsen by lying down in the wheelchair. The wheelchair is intended to help your dog stay active; when it’s time for your pup to rest, remove them from the wheelchair so they can relax.

Can my dog sit in the wheelchair?

No, this wheelchair is designed for active use only. Your dog can not sit while using its wheelchair. Our chair is designed NEVER to collapse on the dog’s leg or spine. We’ve gone to great lengths to be sure of it. The chairs are designed with the help of veterinarians and rehabilitation specialists to hold the dog up, keeping the spine and legs in the optimal position for safety and healing.

What’s more, the purpose of the chair is to give the dog exercise and the freedom to go outside and do his business. When the dog is tired, you should never leave him in the chair.

The reviews we have seen of the experimental sit-down spring-loaded style have not been positive. Although we have done a great deal of research, we have not found a safe way for a chair to collapse on a dog.

How do I know if my dog needs a Medium or a Med/Large wheelchair?

The size of the cart your dog needs will be determined by your dog’s weight and height. Both the medium and medium/large wheelchair frames are the same size, the only difference is the size of the wheel.

Wheelchair SizeDog’s WeightWheel Size
Medium Wheelchair26 – 49 lbs.8”
Med/Large Wheelchair50 – 69 lbs.12” or 16”

Why should I choose an adjustable wheelchair for my dog?

The Walkin’ Wheels wheelchair is an adjustable cart that allows for 2-3″ of adjustability in both height and width, and even more in length. This level of adjustment allows you to finetune the fit of your dog’s cart for a customized fit. With an adjustable cart, your dog’s wheelchair can change as your dog’s body changes. Whether your dog gains weight, loses weight, or is still growing, the wheelchair can be adjusted to fit their changing body throughout its lifetime.

Additionally, for pets dealing with progressive mobility loss, the Walkin’ Wheels wheelchair can easily convert to a full support cart by adding a front attachment. Allowing your pet to use the same wheelchair the entire time.

Will this wheelchair rehabilitate my dog?

Every dog and disability are unique, and so is their recovery process. It’s quite possible to incorporate a wheelchair into your dog’s physical therapy sessions to help improve their balance, weight distribution, and the wheelchair’s support helps them stay mobile as they heal. We have seen varying degrees of rehabilitation with dogs using wheelchairs. Some dogs have been able to improve so much that they no longer need a wheelchair. While your dog is in the wheelchair, they are improving both their physical and mental health.

How quickly can I expect my wheelchair?

We know nothing is more important than getting your dog back on its feet as quickly as possible. So, we make every effort to ship your wheelchair order out on the very same day.
