Mandy got hurt while in pursuit of a problem Black Bear a couple years ago she slipped and fell off a rocky ledge. After having her checked out, she appeared to have hurt her lower back but recovered and seemed perfectly fine for a couple years. About 3 months ago she started showing signs of trouble and in just a matter of a couple days became completely paralyzed in her back end. I took her to the vet at the first signs of trouble and he put her on a steroid and told me she would only have about a 50% chance of walking again. X-rays showed that it was more than likely caused by the old back injury.
The vet said I may have to consider putting her down. I knew that I would do whatever it took to give her the quality of life she deserved for the remainder of her life. I felt that was the least I could do for all the hard work she had done for me over the years.
Mandy is 8 years old and we've had her since she was 6 weeks old. My wife and I started to do some research on forms of therapy for her and found your website. Mandy is my and my wife Donna's little girl, and we love her to the core of life. Mandy has offspring in France, Europe, Sweden, and all over the USA.
She took to the cart well, but was slow the first couple weeks. I could tell it was because of some depression. She has always been a running dog and was depressed because she couldn't.
The pictures are of Mandy two weeks after we got the cart for her. I took a trip to the woods with her and she finally opened up and realized her life was not over. She runs in the cart and is a little Evil Knievel in it now. She is even back to walking a bit on her own again.
Thank you,
Steve Phipps
