Ava's Story

After reading Mercedes story I felt compelled to send you Ava's story. Ava our beloved 14 year old Rott recently went ahead to Heaven after a 4 year battle with not one but 4 serious and separate cancers. Ava became paralyzed in one day, this would be her second to last cancer. The news hit us like a truck! Spinal cancer. We were devestated. Ava was our child. Everyone involved urged us to put her down. But we prayed hard and went ahead with a costly surgery followed by radiation and chemo. All the "experts" said this would give her an additional 4-6 months tops. After a week in the hospital we took her home. She now had a steel plate in her spine and still was not able to walk. My husband and I worried if we had done the right thing.

Ava began to recover and become herself again. But she couldn't walk. We purchased her a cart from doggon on wheels and became experts in the care of a paralyzed dog.
She never lost that spark in her eye, she enjoyed her life every minute! For another 1 1/2 years!!!

Ava developed lung cancer, she was diagnosed 9/11 and passed on 9/15. She was only ill that last day. God was gracious with his mercy and took her home.. I should also mention that Ava survived mouth cancer and surgery to remove one of her k-9's. Ava also survived a huge cancerous tumor in her sinus cavity. The surgery was the first of it's kind, performed at the University of Colorado. Ava was even featured on the local news!

She went home from that surgery with only half her scull. Throughout all  this Ava was always happy to be alive and I  urge everyone who has a handicapped pet to give them the same consideration you would want.Sincerly,Tina Hoff
