Oscar had his disc
thrown-out in two locations on Halloween night of 2001. We had a fusion surgery
done by the only Animal Hospital in the area, and they told us he had a 90%
chance of being totally normal again. After a nearly 6,000 dollar operation
he ended up being as I say 85% strength in one back leg and about 50% in the
other leg. If you tested the strength of his front shoulders and neck you
would be amazed as he uses these as his strength to jump and climb. He loves
his carriage (wheel chair) and is always leading the way on our walks.
I wish there could be more done to help people in situations that we found
ourselves in. The $6,000 bill is a lot of money when you're bringing in 30,000
a year. It was worth every penny and we are extremely happy to have Oscar
no matter what his condition. (I have to help him relive himself. Express
out his urine, and position him for the other.)
We wonder whether
Oscar can help other people in the position of sometimes having to decide
if they can afford to save there beloved animals. Many elder people have their
pet as a companion. It is a sad situation when you have to decide if you can
afford the nessesary surgery or treatments to keep your companion. We have
even thought of our Little Oscar going out and raising money to help his buddies.
